The Bloomington Police Department is investigating human remains on the southwest side of town.
Police say a Duke Energy worker discovered the remains in the 1600 block of S. Rogers Street at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, near Irving Materials Inc. and the Duke Energy substation.
Investigators are releasing few details but say it's unlikely the remains are connected to the Lauren Spierer investigation.
"It's too early for us to confirm gender or race or age," says Capt. Steve Kellams. "And we're also unsure what the means of death might be."
Forensic anthropologists were on the scene Tuesday afternoon examining evidence. Police say there are no indications of foul play.
