Bloomington's largest private employer is expanding.
Cook Group is spending about $16.5 million dollars to grow its medical research and development facility in Indianapolis. The facility has been open since 2012.
The money would be used to add more square footage and purchase additional lab equipment. It would create about 80 jobs over the next five years.
The company employs about 2500 people in Bloomington where it's headquartered. Mayor John Hamilton calls the Indy expansion incredible.
"We love the idea of Cook continuing to expand their work here," says Mayor Hamilton. "Maybe this announcement will help spur them to continue to think about Bloomington some more too."
Around the world, Cook has more than 10,000 employees.
