Daybook: Arbor Day & Carrier Rally With Bernie Sanders

Good morning! Here are some of the stories our team will be following today:

  • Bloomington will celebrate Arbor Day today with a tree planting ceremony at noon in Seminary Park. City officials, including Mayor John Hamilton and representatives from the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department and the Bloomington Parks Foundation, will speak about the history of Arbor Day, followed by a ceremonial planting of a bur oak. Follow Josh Margolis ( @MargolisNews) for updates.
    • Carrier employees will march today to protest layoffs as the factory in Indianapolis plans to close the heating and air conditioning plant, sending 1,400 jobs to Mexico. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will attend the rally, marking another presidential candidate to address Carrier workers leading up to the primary election on May 3. Follow Annie Ropeik ( @ARopeik) of Indiana Public Broadcasting for updates from the event.
      • Indiana Comic Con begins today with celebrity and artist guests. The event threatened to move out of state following last year's Religious Freedom Restoration Act fallout, but will take place in the state once again. Follow Steve Burns ( @STKBurns) for updates.
