Daybook: Baby Boxes Controversy & State Revenues Update

  • From the Associated Press: The director of the Indiana Department of Children Services has warned an organization that installed two baby boxes at firehouses where mothers can drop off unwanted newborns anonymously to remove them. According to letters obtained by The Associated Press, DCS Director Mary Beth Bonaventura wrote the Safe Haven Baby Box organization saying she questions the safety of the boxes. Barbara Brosher (@BabsofBTown) is following the story today.
    • The state will release May's revenue report today. Our statehouse reporter Brandon Smith (@brandonjsmith5) is waiting for those numbers.In April, tax collections surged, but prior to that, tax collections had only exceeded expectations twice during this fiscal year.
