Daybook: LGBT Meeting & Gubernatorial Forum

  • A legislative summer study committee meets for the first time today to discuss civil rights protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers. Anti-discrimination legislation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers couldn't make it out of committee last session. And a so-called "compromise" bill leaving out transgender protections cleared a committee but wasn't called for a vote on the Senate floor. The committee hearing is open to the public. It begins at 9:00 a.m. in room 404 at the Statehouse. Follow Statehouse reporter Brandon Smith on Twitter at @BrandonJSmith5 for updates from the meeting.
    • Watch a live stream of a Gubernatorial forum tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Indiana University Public Policy Institute hosts the Thriving Communities, Thriving State Gubernatorial Forum. All three candidates for Indiana Governor – Libertarian Rex Bell, Democrat John Gregg, and Republican Eric Holcomb – join Justice Randall Shepard individually for conversations about the Thriving findings and recommendations, and their vision for the State of Indiana.
