IU Bloomington Offering Free Mumps Vaccinations

Indiana University and the Monroe County Health Department will offer free MMR vaccinations this week after health officials confirmed several cases of mumps at IU.

The university is investigating five cases of mumps at its Bloomington campus and one case at IUPUI. Butler University says nine students have contracted the virus.

The clinics will be offered Wednesday and Thursday in the Georgian Room at the Indiana Memorial Union. The university recommends students who've already been vaccinated receive the shots. They're also offering the vaccine to faculty and staff.

According to the university, those who've already received two doses could still catch the virus because the shots aren't 100 percent effective.
