Kokomo's Highland Park Ready for Light Show Despite August Tornado

Three months after the EF3 tornado tore through Kokomo, 165 new trees are planted and Highland Park is ready for its holiday light show.

Mayor Greg Goodnight says the parks department had to hustle to get the 56 displays and 20,000 lights ready for Wednesday night.

"It will look a little different," Goodnight says. "I think we lost 70 or so very mature trees, but it's a beautiful light display. Won't have quite the background."

Goodnight says so far they've raised $83,000 for the "Rebuild Highland Park" fund that will also replace damaged ADA compliant playground equipment this spring.

The money raised from the holiday light displays goes to the Kokomo Y's Men, a YMCA charity group. The light show along Stadium Drive begins Wednesday and ends New Year's Day.
