Start The New Year With A 'First Day Hike' At A State Park

The Indiana State Parks system is once again participating in First Day Hikes, the nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging people to get outdoors.

According to the American Hiking Society, nearly 28,000 people nationwide participate in a First Day Hike each New Year's Day, hiking collectively more than 66,000 miles.

All 32 properties in Indiana will host a hike on New Year's Day, ranging from a 5k run to a casual stroll on a paved path. Most provide hot beverages after the hike.

As part of the Hiking Through History adventure, Becca Costello will hike the 10 a.m. First Day Hike at Harmonie State Park, a two mile paved route. Join her in southwest Indiana or make your own memories at one of the other State Parks and Reservoirs properties!
