Speaking Wednesday on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, IU President Michael McRobbie says this year's fundraising efforts are record-breaking and include increases in research funding.
"Last academic year IU researchers received a record $614 million in external funding to support their research and other activities — a remarkable nearly 20 percent increase over the previous year," McRobbie says.
Fundraising
McRobbie announced a financial initiative in which he called for a systematic review of IU procedures in the interest of eliminating redundancies. That's due by the end of the calendar year.
Total contributions to IU in fiscal year 2016 are nearing $1 billion dollars.
The Bicentennial
McRobbie also spoke of his plans for Indiana University's 200 th anniversary in 2020. He says a key goal for the bicentennial is to improve upon the ethos and character of the university.
"It is the campuses that provide them with the spaces — interior and exterior, intimate and grand — in which they can contemplate, study, experiment, debate, meet, fall in love, exercise and compete," McRobbie says.
McRobbie also outlined a number of initiatives, including grants, history projects, and public art restoration the university is taking on. One of the projects includes adding historical markers to campuses.
