Trump Names Oklahoma Attorney General To Lead EPA

President-elect Donald Trump plans to nominate Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Pruitt is notable for suing the EPA over environmental regulations, including the Clean Power Plan. Indiana is also party to that lawsuit.

The Clean Power Plan would expand the EPA's authority to regulate carbon emissions. The Supreme Court halted implementation of the plan earlier this year while the court system decides whether the plan is legal.

Indiana Coal Council President Bruce Stevens says the plan would have a huge impact on coal production and energy use in the state.

"That federal regulation really is the number one threat to Indiana's coal industry right now, simply because Indiana is so heavily dependent upon coal," Stevens says.

If the courts do not strike down the Clean Power Plan, it's unclear how much authority Pruitt or Trump would have to get rid of the rule.
