Police say the two victims of a "hectic" shooting outside a Bloomington party early Sunday morning are in critical but stable condition.
A 23-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were injured during the shooting that occurred near the 400 block of South Grant Street around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Both victims were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and police say one victim was transported from there to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
As of midday Monday, both victims were listed as being in critical but stable condition.
Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo says the first officer arrived on scene as the incident was happening.
“As he exited his patrol car, there were still rounds being fired, and he could hear them hitting nearby where he was," Pedigo says. "He ran immediately toward where he heard the shots coming from."
Police arrested 20-year-old Gabriel Alsman of Bloomington on charges of resisting law enforcement, recklessness with a firearm, marijuana possession and theft. He bonded out of jail Sunday evening.
Pedigo says Alsman got into an argument and was asked to leave the party before firing his gun.
He says police are looking for a second shooter.
“We believe there to be more than just the one shooter," he says. "I can’t give you an exact amount of how many others may have been involved, it was a pretty hectic scene."
30 shell casings were found at the scene, with some of the bullets hitting buildings and vehicles. No one else was hurt.
