A firm studying the economic impact of Indiana State University has found that the numbers published as part of their preliminary results were too conservative and have now increased their estimates.
According to the new numbers, ISU produces more $381 million for the economy annually over a seven-county area. In addition, researchers found that for every 100 jobs at the university, 29 additional jobs were created or supported in the region.
Thomas P. Miller and Associates Director of Research Brian Points says studying the economic impact of a public institution like ISU is important, so residents know where their money is going in their community.
"If we're going to continue supporting these public entities with public dollars, the public needs to know what are they doing with it," he says. "And so you can use these figures in dollar terms and in jobs terms, here's how these entities are benefiting the public."
The final report is expected to be published in July.
