Seiberling Mansion Roof Fundraising Efforts Surpass Halfway Mark

The Kokomo historic Seiberling Mansion roof still leaks and architects say new slate must be installed before it causes major damage to the building's interior.

The Seiberling Mansion is home to the Howard County Museum.

Howard County Historical Society Executive Director Dave Broman says although they are only halfway to their $1 million fundraising goal, he expects construction to start in July.

"This is a unique building with a history that reflects on all of central Indiana because of its role in the gas boom," Broman says.

The mansion was built in 1890 for Ohio industrialist Monroe Seiberling and his family. They came to the area after the discovery of natural gas.

Broman says construction includes fixing interior water damage and anticipates the mansion will remain open during construction.
