Work Set To Begin On 4,000-Panel Solar Farm In Bartholomew Co.

Work is set to begin Tuesday on a 4,000 solar panel farm in Bartholomew County.

The solar energy farm will run along Interstate 65 and will cover about seven acres. It's one of 10 solar sites Hoosier Energy is installing across south and central Indiana.

The site will produce power for the Bartholomew County and Jackson County rural electric cooperatives.

Senior Communication Specialist for Hoosier Energy Mary Lynn Beaver says solar power is an important part of the company's renewable energy strategy.

"This is part of Hoosier Energy's 'all-of-the-above' power supply strategy which includes providing 10 percent of our member system energy requirements from renewables by the year 2025," Beaver says.

Hoosier Energy has conducted three surveys over the past several years and Beaver says most members overwhelmingly support renewable energy efforts.

Construction is expected to be complete sometime in August.
