Gun Fired In Accidental Shooting Of 4-Year-Old Boy Sent In For Examination

The Monroe County Sheriff’s office has sent the gun used in an accidental shooting that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old boy to the state police lab for examination.

Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain says that guns are usually sent in for examination during investigations but for different reasons.

The boy, identified as Tripp Shaw, died Thursday morning from head injuries from the Jan. 19 incident, during which the boy’s father, Tyler Shaw, claims his gun accidentally discharged while the two were wrestling. Tyler was struck in the head with the same bullet but remains in stable condition.

Police reported the gun to be a Glock semi-automatic handgun.

According to the firearm company’s website, Glock handguns have three-step safety systems built in the gun called the GLOCK Safe Action System.

According to the website, “The Safe Action System is a fully automatic safety system consisting of three passive, independently operating, mechanical safeties.”

The system includes a trigger safety, firing pin safety and a drop safety.

Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain says the investigation is still active.
