It appears the Indiana State Department of Health has begun updating Monroe County’s COVID-19 data after weeks of Indiana University data missing from county totals.
The ISDH reported Wednesday 24 new positive cases and 210 new tests, bringing county totals to 2,209 positive cases and 64,756 tests administered. On a typical day, the state will report anywhere from 100 to 300 tests, but Aug. 24, Sept. 11, Sept. 12 all reported more than 5,000 tests as the state dumped IU data into its COVID-19 dashboard.
The Aug. 24 data dump — which included positive test results from IU’s mandatory testing — helps explain why Monroe County’s seven-day positivity rate began increasing from 1% on Aug. 20 to peak at 10.3% on Sept. 6. As the state has begun inputting negative test results, the seven-day positivity rate has begun to decrease to its current rate at 8.8% for all tests.
As of Wednesday, Monroe County has tested about 29% of its residents, and the county death toll remained the same at 36 for the 23 rd consecutive day.
People ages 20-29 make up 45.4% of Monroe County’s positive cases and 41.4% of individuals tested, while people under 20 contribute an additional 24.8% of cases and 20.9% of tests.
Statewide, the ISDH reported 624 positive cases confirmed between Sept. 10 and Sept. 15 and 12 new deaths which date back to June 10. This data increased state totals to 107,809 positive cases and 3,247 deaths. The state has administered 1,770,032 tests with a seven-day positivity rate of 4.7%, according to the ISDH.
Hospitalizations continue to fluctuate as 788 Hoosiers are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19, but state data indicates no shortage of ICU beds or ventilators.
