An Indiana University fraternity house is on cease and desist Sept. 17, according to university spokesperson Chuck Carney.
IU describes cease and desist as, “an interim measure placed upon certain aspects of chapter operations when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation.”
The Monroe County Health Department later Wednesday confirmed the Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi — one of IU’s 14 Greek houses currently under quarantine, as closed for the rest of the school year through summer of 2021.
A statement provided by the health department says on the night of Sept. 16, "individual members of Alpha Epsilon Pi intentionally instituted, permitted, or maintained conditions which may transmit the spread of COVID-19, in violation of Indiana Code." It also says members may have initially provided false information to law enforcement about their actions.
The closure is part of an agreement through Indiana University and the chapter to remedy any fines or legal action by the health department.

Alpha Epsilon Pi has been on disciplinary probation multiple times since 2016 for alcohol, harassment, dishonest conduct, endangering others and non-compliance with the university’s Greek Organization Agreement.
