Indiana is seeing its greatest number of positive cases and deaths in nearly a week, a day after Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Indiana will transition into Stage Five of the state’s reopening plan.
The State Department of Health reported Wednesday 920 new positive cases — 919 confirmed on Sept. 23 — and 17 new deaths that occurred between Aug. 24 and Sept. 23. These numbers bring the state totals to 114,236 positive cases and 3,322 deaths statewide. The state has administered 1,937,499 tests with a 3.9% seven-day positivity rate.
Today’s spike follows the ISDH trend of reporting greater numbers later in the week as data suggest more Hoosier undergo testing between Wednesday and Friday.
In Monroe County, ISDH reported 19 new cases and 527 tests, increasing county totals to 2,531 cases and 74,932 tests administered with a 4.2% seven-day positivity rate. Monroe County’s death toll remained at 36 for the 31 st consecutive day.
Across the state, 840 Hoosiers are hospitalized due to COVID-19.
