The Monroe County Public Library trustees will meet Tuesday night to vote on a building design for its third branch, near Batchelor Middle School.
Grier Carson is the associate director for the library. He says plans for the Southwest Branch take the environment into account.

Some community activists want to preserve a densely wooded area near the building site. One of the two proposed plans includes a parking garage underneath the library, in order to limit removal of trees for parking.
“A lot of what we’re thinking about doing is very heavily influenced by the dialogue we’ve had with the community," he says. "That’s certainly been an enriching part of the process for us.”
He adds that any tree removal would focus on invasive Bradford Pear trees and that any trees cut down would be replaced with native species.
Once the board of trustees votes on a building design, a site plan will be submitted to the county for approval next month.
