Monroe County’s COVID-19 death toll grew Tuesday for the first time since late August.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported a new death in the county along with 14 new positive cases, which increased the county total to 2,671 cases and 37 deaths. Before the death on Sept. 25, Monroe County had not experienced a COVID-19-related death since Aug. 22.
All of the deaths in Monroe County have been people over 50 while 85.7% of the county’s cases involve people under 50. Simultaneously, 80.8 of people tested have been under 50.
Monroe County has administered 80,699 tests with a 3.2% seven-day positivity rate.
Across the state, ISDH reported 20 new deaths that occurred between Sept. 25 and Sept. 28 and 761 new cases confirmed between Sept. 26 and Sept. 28. The state’s totals rose to 3,385 deaths and 119,066 cases. The ISDH reported the state has administered 2,042,146 tests with a 4.1% seven-day positivity rate.
Currently, 942 Hoosiers are hospitalized because of COVID-19.
