Library Board Votes On Design For New Branch, Includes Underground Parking Garage

The Monroe County Public Library trustees have voted unanimously on a building design for a third branch near Batchelor Middle School.

The design will include a parking garage underneath the building’s main level. That will minimize the need to clear trees for construction.

Mandy Hussey is the library’s communications and marketing manager. She said the trustees chose this option largely because of a community desire to preserve wooded areas.

Hussey said they’re excited to become a resource for teens in the area, given its location near the middle school.

“The teen spaces at both the Ellettsville branch and ground floor at the main library have been such positive spaces," she said. "We’re hoping that this will be the same for that southwest community.”

Next, the building plan will be submitted to the county for review.

The library plans to purchase the site from the school board early in 2021.

Construction of the new branch is set to start next year in September.
