Monroe County has decreasing COVID-19 numbers, while Indiana cases and hospitalizations are increasing. The state has seen an uptick in positivity rates and 8-12 deaths a day.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported Thursday — just a week after Gov. Holcomb announced Indiana would move into Stage Five of its reopening plan — 1,171 new cases and 13 new deaths. These new numbers bring the state’s totals to 121,176 positive cases and 3,418 deaths. Indiana has administered 2,087,611 tests, with a seven-day positivity rate of 4.3% — slightly higher than last week’s 3.9%.
Indiana’s seven-day positivity rate has increased gradually since Sept. 17, but the state’s number of daily positive cases has been on the rise since Sept. 9, following a dramatic decrease. The state’s seven-day case average is currently 997, while its seven-day death average is 11.

Monroe County has seen a different trend. The ISDH reported 16 new cases and 670 new tests, bringing the county total to 2,725 cases and 84,493 tests. Monroe County’s positivity rate has decreased from 10.4% on Sept. 6 to 3.1% Thursday. The county death toll remained at 37.
Monroe County’s seven-day case average has decreased from 95 on Sept. 14 to 27 Thursday.
