Five hundred glass blown pumpkins made by volunteers will take over the Monroe County Courthouse lawn on Saturday for the Bloomington Creative Glass Center’s 11 th Annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. attendees will be able to admire and buy the pumpkins, with all the money going towards the glass center’s arts education programs.
For Abby Gitlitz, glass artist and founder of the Bloomington Creative Glass Center, the best part of the event is seeing the public’s reaction to the hundreds of glass pumpkins.
“People’s eyes get so big and they get so excited and, you know, they want all of them and they look at them and compare them and they ooo and ah it’s just fun to see people interact with the art,” Gitlitz said.
To maintain social distancing, 15 people will be let into the patch at a time. Attendees will be required to wear gloves and masks and tickets will be for specific 15-minute time slots to avoid a line to get in. Tickets are going fast and range from $100 at the beginning of the day to free at the end of the day.
Gitlitz said if people are not able to get tickets before they sell out, there will be a contest on the glass center’s Facebook page to win free tickets to Saturday’s event. People can also order pumpkins online that will be ready for pickup in November.
