The Indiana State Department of Health reported Monday 1,581 new COVID-19 cases after a record-breaking weekend.
Indiana began seeing the state average of positive cases rise on Sept. 24 — a day after Gov. Eric Holcomb announced the state would move into Stage 5 of its reopening plan. Less than three weeks later, Indiana’s daily positive case average has risen from 825 cases a day on Sept. 24 to 1,519 cases a day on Oct. 11.
This increase along with an additional six deaths brings Indiana’s state totals to 136,555 cases and 3,568 deaths. The state has administered 2,357,865 tests on 1,495,852 Hoosiers with a 5.3% seven-day positivity rate.
COVID-19 hospitalizations also continue to increase with 1,238 Hoosiers currently hospitalized due to the virus.
In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 27 new cases, pushing the county total past the 3,000-case mark to 3,015 positive cases countywide. Monroe County has administered 98,740 tests on 49,019 individuals with a 1.9% seven-day positivity rate. The county’s death toll remained at 37.
