Since entering Stage 5 of its reopening plan on Sept. 26, Indiana has reported 11 days with more than 1,000 positive COVID-19 cases. Ten of them have been in the past 12 days.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported Tuesday 1,569 new cases confirmed between Oct. 10 and Oct. 12 and 27 new deaths with all but one occurring since the start of the month. These new numbers increase the state’s totals to 138,104 positive cases and 3,595 deaths.
The health department’s daily update showed Indiana’s seven-day rolling average of new confirmed COVID-19 infections continued growing at record levels, reaching 1,601 as of Sunday. That’s a 90% increase from three weeks earlier.
Indiana has seen its average daily death count slightly increase from an average of 10 deaths a day on Sept. 12 to 13 on Oct. 12.
According to ISDH data, the state has administered 2,376,462 tests with a 5.3% seven-day positivity rate, and 1,288 Hoosiers are currently hospitalized due to the virus. Hospitalizations have grown 70% in the past three weeks
In Monroe County, the positive case count rose by 38 to 3,054, while the death toll remained at 37. The county has experienced a small increase in its seven-day positivity rate over the past two weeks from 1.4% to 2.1%. The county has administered 100,599 tests on 49,204 individuals, according to the ISDH.
According to data on Monroe County Community School Corp. website, one in-person student has tested positive this week.
