The City of Bloomington Parks & Recreation department is hosting the city’s first ever lights display at Switchyard Park this weekend.
Parks community relations manager Julie Ramey says the department recognized that there weren’t other light displays in the city and wanted to fill that gap.
“We hope it makes them happy,” Ramey said. “We hope they get some joy out of it. The opportunity to spend some quality time with your family or with friends. The holidays are a special time and lots of togetherness. And enjoyment. So that's really our ultimate goal.”
After setting them up, Ramey says seeing the lights for the first time in the dark was a great experience.
“The only word for it is childish glee,” she said.
The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, weather permitting, and 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, there will be a candy cane scavenger hunt for children at 4 p.m, a Milk Bone hunt for dogs at 4:30 p.m., an ugly holiday sweater run at 5:30 p.m and live music from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Admission for both nights is free.
