Republican Dave Hall affirmed winner for District 62 after recount

In the race for Indiana House District 62, Republican candidate Dave Hall has been affirmed the winner in a manual recount of ballots that increased his lead by 34 votes.

The Monroe County Democratic Chair David Henry requested a recount in the race, which initially had Hall leading democratic candidate Penny Githens by 40 votes.

The recount was confirmed by the Indiana Recount Commission this week. Hall won by 74 votes out of the 26,000 cast.

It means Githens will continue to serve as a Monroe County Commissioner.

Henry says the change in tallies came largely from incorrectly signed ballots during early voting and voting on election day.

Upon further inspection, some were deemed acceptable and were added. Some were determined to fall outside of guidelines and had to be taken from totals.

He said a majority of the ballots with signature issues came from Brown County.
