Monroe County seeing slight uptick in early voting this year

Monroe County residents can register in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the clerk’s office at 301 North College Avenue, or online before the end of the day.

Monroe County residents have begun voting for candidates in the May 2 primaries.

As of Sunday night, 1,028 votes had been cast. Another 60 votes were cast as of Monday afternoon. This is an increase from 794 votes cast three weeks into early voting in 2019.

Of the 413 ballots mailed out, 164 had been returned as of Monday afternoon. Those who want to vote by mail must submit an absentee ballot application, available online or at the local clerk’s office and BMV branches.

Early voting began Tuesday, April 4th and lasts until May 1st. Monroe County residents can register in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the clerk’s office at 301 North College Avenue, or online before the end of the day. 

Residents can also register to vote online at Indiana-Voters-Dot-I-N-Dot-Gov before the end of Monday. If registering online, you must have an Indiana driver’s license or state-issued I-D. 

Absentee ballots must be received by the county election board by 6 p.m. on Election Day, which is May 2. A full list of early voting times and dates is available on the county’s website.
