Trial date moved for woman alleged in hit-and-run that killed IU student

A new trial date has been scheduled for Madelyn Howard, who is accused in the 2022 car crash that killed an IU junior who was riding an e-scooter. The trial date was moved to Feb. 26 next year. The date was originally set for March this year but was cancelled for an unspecified reason.

Howard is facing charges of reckless homicide, fleeing the scene and two counts of drunk driving.

The accident occurred September 18, 2022. Security camera footage showed Howard’s car driving onto the sidewalk and hitting 20-year-old Nate Stratton.

Stratton was a junior in the Kelley School of Business and was originally from Minnesota.

In addition, Stratton’s parents are suing Kilroy’s Sports in civil court for allowing Howard to drive while intoxicated.
