Christmas is almost here, and Abell Nursery is giving away its extra Fraser firs before it closes for the season.
Natalie Townsend, office coordinator at the nursery, said they have about 30 trees left. She said there is no requirement to get a free tree other than stopping by and requesting one.
“They come in and they just say they need a tree, we’re just giving it to them, no questions or anything,” she said.
There are six, seven and eight foot Fraser firs to choose from. The firs are also available for sale for $60, $80 and $100, respectively.

Townsend said the nursery ordered 220 firs this season. She estimated they gave away about 20 last weekend.
The store will close for the season on Friday. Townsend hopes they will be able to give away the rest of the trees, but said they won’t go to waste.
“We had someone reach out, I think they maybe own a goat farm or something, and they said that the goats would gladly eat those trees,” she said.
Townsend said if they have any trees left Friday, they will leave them on the side of the road outside the store for people to pick up.
Abell Nursery, located at 7667 W. St. Rd. 45 in Bloomington, is open until 4 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, weather depending. Additional information is available on its website.
