Indiana University will present a conference on diversity

The IDEAL Conference will be held April 4-6 in Indianapolis.

IU and the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity are hosting a diversity conference on April 4-6 in Indianapolis. 

According to the website, “the conference provides a regional forum for critical exchange of resources, best practices, and research on the social and political landscape of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in higher education.” 

The conference aims for professional development of secondary and postsecondary settings. 

It will have 600 participants and will have “keynote speakers, reviews, poster sessions, and several additional opportunities for dialogue and sharing.”

The conference will have discourse in topics of “teaching and learning, staff community, student body, and institutional leadership.”

It will also have promising practice reviews which provide “an opportunity to share diversity, equity, inclusion initiatives, programs, and organization best practices.” 

There are also poster presentations that will have research, strategies, and development in “culturally diverse settings.” 

According to the press release, there will be seven keynote speakers from different universities around the Midwest. 

One keynote speaker will be civil rights activist  Kimberlé Crenshaw, who is credited for coining the terms "intersectionality" and "critical race theory," as well as creating the #SayHerName campaign.
