The City of Bloomington is asking for feedback for a mural design to be placed on the Duke Energy substation walls at the northwest corner of West 11th Street and North Rogers. The public may view the proposed design and provide feedback on the city’s website until Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The theme for the mural comes from a community survey – it seeks to highlight the nature of the Maple Heights neighborhood and to create a sense of belonging within the Bloomington community.
This mural design showcases native plants, insects and cats, symbolizing the neighborhood's connection to local nature. The design is the work of three local artists. It will be about 64 feet by 16 feet.
It will be painted during fall of this year. Bloomington residents will be invited to participate in a community paint day on a to-be-announced date.
Duke Energy gave a grant of $25,000 to support the project. The mural will be the first of five to be installed. A group of artists will be selected for each mural to develop a design that reflects the general theme of the project.
