Assistant Chief of Criminal Investigations Shawn Keen will be the next Chief of the Terre Haute Police Department.
Current chief John Plasse was elected the next Vigo County Sheriff.
Mayor Duke Bennett made the selection announcement this week.
"Five straight years with a drop in crime in Terre Haute and the lowest it’s been in over 20 years. A lot of that is attributed to not only Chief Plasse, but Assistant Chief Keen and Assistant Chief Eldred," says Bennett.
Keen has been a member of the Terre Haute Police Department for nearly 21 years. He’s served in his current position since 2008.
Keen and Plasse begin their new duties Jan. 1. Plasse will help oversee whatever becomes of the controversial new Vigo County jail. Keen will take over leadership of the city’s proposed new police station.
