Owen Co. Officials Facing Tight Budgets To Repair Damaged Roads

February flooding along with frequent swings in temperature has put a strain on county resources.

Director of Owen County’s Highway Department Greg Melton says the biggest problem is the lack of proper drainage throughout the county.

"I have 697 miles of country road that need to be ditched," he says. "Times two because I have to do each side."

Melton says crews have been out in force since early February trying to make roads passable for emergency personnel and local residents.

He says he’s already applied for emergency grants and hopes county commissioners and council will help fund road projects for the time being.
