Broadband App Hopes To Paint Truer Picture Of Speeds

It's called TestIT and is a new app that helps report rural broadband speeds to the FCC.

The National Association of Counties is partnering with the Rural Community Assistance Partnership and the Rural Local Initiatives Support Corporation to use that data to help improve rural broadband service.

Indiana Farm Bureau President and farmer Randy Kron lives just outside of Evansville.  He says transferring large amounts of data require a faster connection than what he currently has.

"It helps us be better farmers and better environmentalists," Kron says. "We don’t want to spend any money or do anything we don’t have to, but we have to be aware of what’s going on so those technologies are important."

Carriers self-report their speeds and coverage areas to the FCC, but validating that data can be challenging. Users hope the app improves that data.

The app is available to download for on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
