Ball State University is naming its College of Architecture and Planning after an alumnus and former trustee who died in a plane crash last year.
R. Wayne Estopinal graduated from Ball State in 1979. He was CEO of TEG Architects in Jeffersonville, a company he founded in 1989, when he died in a small jet crash in a wooded area near Memphis, Indiana last November.
He had served on the Ball State Board of Trustees since 2011 and had been recently reappointed by Governor Eric Holcomb for a new term.
Ball State Board Chair Rick Hall says Estopinal “supported students, faculty, and fellow alumni in every manner possible for decades.” The school notes Estopinal’s company employed more than 100 Ball State alumni and dozens of interns.
The building on the Muncie campus will be known as the Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning.
