The Transportation Security Administration‘s Security Pre-Check program has launched at the Indianapolis International Airport. Anyone leaving Indianapolis on one of a few major airlines is eligible to be screened before they even show up to the airport.
TSA Administrator John Pistole says this will make the screening process better and safer. He says fingerprint data, a background check, and other information is collected by the TSA, but in exchange, if you are approved, you can keep your shoes, and your belt on as you make your way through a less invasive screening before your flight.
"Then we know more about you, so we can make an informed decision ahead of time to say 'okay, this person probably isn‘t a terrorist,'" he says.
Indianapolis is the 21st airport to get the Pre-Check. By the end of the year the program will be in 35 airports nationwide. The pre-check is only for domestic flights, though Pistole says they are looking for way to bring the Pre-Check to international flights, as well.
