An Indiana based real estate firm is donating 50 acres of land to the Central Indiana Land Trust to use as a nature preserve. The land donated by Holladay Properties is valued at $4.3 million and is located in southwest Marion County.
Central Indiana Land Trust Executive Director, Cliff Chapman says it's unheard of that land of this value, which could have been used for development, would be donated for conservation purposes.
"The economic value of the land is certainly exciting for us because we could have never afforded to buy it. But the main purpose that we want the land for is because of its conservation value."
The endangered Indiana bat preserve has been spotted near the donated land.
The nature preserve will be dedicated to sustaining that species as well as other native plants and animals. It will also be open to the public.
