American Legion Group Auditing Indy VA Hospital This Week

An American Legion Task Force is getting ready to conduct an audit on the RoudebushVeterans Affairs Hospital in Indianapolis.

American Legion Post #500 in Speedway is also hosting a public forum tonight on the matter. This follows the Indianapolis-based National American Legion Commander‘s call for leadership changes at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Commander Daniel Dellinger has cited patient deaths, secret waiting lists, delayed care, misdiagnosis of ailments, falsification of medical records and other abuses at VA Medical centers across the nation.

Indiana American Legion Spokesman Bruce Drake says national committee members are looking into whether those same issues may or may not exist at Roudebush.

Drake says they hope to hear positive feedback as well as about any problems.

"We've seen it in other task force's when they go to other VA hospitals, they get kind of the dog and pony show," says Drake. "So if we go in there with some specific cases, we can ask them about that and we can get some feedback back to the veterans because that's the ultimate customer of this VA healthcare is the veteran.

The audit begins today and will run through Wednesday.
