An increase in the number of SUV's and trucks being sold in the U.S. has revved-up the auto industry to a new high. Total car and truck sales hit nearly $1.4 million in April.
That's up 8 percent from last year.
General Motors shows the largest total sales with more than a quarter million vehicles – that's up seven percent from last year.
Across all dealers, there was a 12 percent increase in the sale of light trucks.
"It's one of the hottest segments in the industry right now," says Nissan spokesperson Brian Brockman.
He says the 2014 Nissan Rogue Crossover, a vehicle like an SUV built on a car-like
platform, is a big seller.
"So you get bigger, more capacity for passengers and cargo, really solid handling with features like all-wheel drive," he says. "But it also gives you comfortable, car-like handling and ride that people like."
Brockman says more people are considering buying crossover vehicles after this year's harsh winter.
