Governor Mike Pence's Chief Of Staff Resigns

Governor Mike Pence's chief of staff is leaving the administration to work in the private sector.

Bill Smith has worked for Mike Pence for 14 years, including roles as the chief of staff for then-Congressman Pence and senior advisor during Pence's 2012 gubernatorial campaign.

Smith announced today he will resign to start a political consulting firm with Pence as one of his clients.

In a statement, the governor praised Smith's "incalculable contributions" and "integrity and strong leadership."

Pence says he looks forward to continuing to work with Smith in his new position.

The resignation is effective May 8. The governor's office did not indicate a timetable for naming Smith's replacement.
