A driving trail that will link baseball landmarks along the I-64 corridor together opens in less than two weeks. It's called the Heartland Historic Baseball Trail.
The trail begins at the Louisville Slugger Museum and then crosses into Southern Indiana. It includes stops at the League Stadium in Huntingburg, the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in Jasper, the Gil Hodges Mural in Petersburg, Gil Hodges Field in Princeton and Bosse Field in Evansville.
Dubois County Visitor's Center Marketing Manager Jessica Lindauer says each of the landmarks has its own significance.
"Bosse Field is the third oldest ballpark used for professional baseball in the country and Gil Hodges was born in Princeton and was raised in Petersburg, and that's where the field and the murals are," says Lindauer. "And then of course, Bosse Field and League Stadium were in the movie A League of Their Own and then we have the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame and the Louisville Slugger Museum."
Officials will celebrate the launch of the trail prior to the start of the Dubois County Bombers home opener on May 30.
