Hundreds of mourners attended funeral services at noon Friday for former Indiana Congressman Andy Jacobs, Jr.
The visitation and funeral service were held at the State House Rotunda.
The casket arrived on the north side of the Statehouse at 10:00am, immediately followed by a family visitation in the Rotunda.
The funeral service began at 12:00pm. Several people offered remarks about Jacobs' personal and political life, including Governor Mike Pence and Congressman Andre Carson.
Governor Pence directed flags be flown at half-staff Friday to honor Jacobs.
Jacobs, a Democrat, was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1964, and lost his seat only once in 1972 to former Indianapolis Mayor Bill Hudnut.
A former Marine, Jacobs was known for his early outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War. He was also a longtime member of the House Ways and Means Committee and helped draft the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Jacobs served 14 terms as a congressman representing Indiana's 10th Congressional District until his retirement in 1997.
