Does This Qualify As A Blizzard?

Hoosiers are digging out from yesterday's winter storm. National Weather Service Indianapolis Meteorologist Mike Ryan says many areas around the state received 10 to 15 inches of snow. Winds gusts have now picked up-causing blowing and drifting snow.

Ryan says Indiana experienced near blizzard conditions.

"What defines a blizzard is 35 mph gusts or better and visiblities of a quarter miles or less for three hours or more," says Ryan. "And why we did have those conditions at times, we didn't have them consistently."

The weather service is also warning of deadly wind chills as low as 45 below zero possible through Tuesday.

"We've had bitterly cold air drop into the state behind the snow. We've seen temperatures that are some 35-40 degrees colder than they were 12 hours ago."

Ryan says temperatures should be back into the 30s later this week-which will feel balmy compared to what we have right now.
