Indiana University has shut down the call line center it opened as a response to a data breach that left the personal information of 146,000 current and former students' exposed.
University officials said information including names, social security numbers and addresses had been unsecured because of a human error. The call center opened in late February after the breach happened and received over a thousand calls.
IU spokesman Mark Land says there were no reports of identity theft and the university is working on better education to prevent a breach happening in the future.
"We didn't have to do any work to strengthen our firewalls, if you will," Land says, "But what we did do is we took a lot of steps around training to remind people of what our data security procedures are."
Land says the response to the data breach ultimately cost the school about $130,000.
