Indiana's dairy farmers have unveiled their annual artistic contribution to the State Fair - a sculpture made of cheese.
Sarah Kaufmann used three-quarters of a ton of Indiana-made yellow and white cheddar for a sculpture depicting six kids bicycling, lifting weights, and snacking on dairy products like yogurt and string cheese.
Kaufmann, who has sculpted cheese for 18 years, said she incorporated subtle touches designed to start conversations about the healthful properties of cheese, such as the word "protein" woven into the leotard of one of the kids.
After the State Fair ends, the cheese will be recycled into biofuel for a second straight year at the Bio Town livestock farm in Reynolds, the White County town which for nine years has sought to make its energy consumption entirely self-sufficient as a state alternative-fuel pilot project.
