Bloomington 8th-Graders Win National Award For Video

A group of Bloomington eighth-graders are going coast to coast for a short film they produced about respect.

Students from Batchelor Middle School came together over the summer to film a video about how to stop bullying.

The film shows a group of students who tease a classmate and try to leave him out when another student steps in to defend his classmate.

The video won an award from the Peace In The Streets Global Film Festival and two students and their teacher, Jeff Rudkin went to New York City at the U.N. headquarters to accept the award. They won the top spot in kids ages nine to thirteen.

Kobe Davis, a Batchelor Middle student who filmed, edited and starred in the video, says he was happy to give up part of his summer to make a video about something he feels very strongly about.

"We've been wanting to make a video about how to keep respect because in our school there were a lot of fights and different bullying aspects going on last year and we just wanted to make a video to prove a point that everybody needs to show respect to everyone," Davis says.

The video is also being screened at the International student film festival Hollywood in November, which Kobe and 19 of his fellow students will get to attend.
