Former Butler University president Bobby Fong died today at age 64.
Fong led the school from 2001 to 2011, through a period of enrollment growth and a rising national reputation.
Current Butler University President Jim Danko says Fong was a president who wanted personal relationships with students, but his reach also extended beyond campus.
"Bobby Fong brought a high level of grace and gentlemanly approach. That was definitely seen and appreciated by the business community and the foundation and organizations across the region. So from that standpoint, I would say his legacy only helped to raise the profile of Butler," Danko says.
The highlight of his presidency came near the end of his tenure , when the men's basketball team made it to the Final Four.
Fong left Butler to take the top job at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania.
