Hundreds Of Hoosier Companies Participate In Manufacturing Day

More than 200 companies across Indiana opened their doors Friday to educate students about careers in manufacturing as part of a national Manufacturing Day held annually in October. 

Companies have celebrated Manufacturing Day since 2012 as a way to address the misconceptions about manufacturing jobs being dirty or tedious. In Indiana, it’s been primarily used to attract high school students to work at local factories in the future.  

Mark Borlik is the production manager at B&B Molders in Mishawaka. He’s held a variety of manufacturing jobs and says he participates to share his positive experience with younger generations. 

“And that’s kind of what we want to relate to the kids today,” Borlik says. “That there are opportunities out here and it’s as varied as what you want to make of it.”

Manufacturing Day is organized by the National Association of Manufacturers.
