The Bloomington Plan Commission unanimously approved a proposal to expand College Mall.
The proposal would mean demolishing Sears and building a 59,000 square foot addition in its place.
The space would house a Whole Foods grocery store and several retailers, including an Ulta makeup store.
Two free-standing restaurants -- a Panera and BJ's Restaurant -- would be constructed in the existing parking lot. The current Panera located across the street will move into the new building.
At a meeting in March, the plan commission expressed concerns about pedestrian safety in that area because people would have to cross through drive-thru lanes to enter some buildings.
The amended proposal includes a raised pedestrian crossing to alleviate those concerns.
